The second step that a client can take in order to actively participate in their career assessment is to gauge how dependable that they are. These clients should be asked to ponder whether they are dependable to the customers that they service. They should be asked to ponder this question, not immediately answer it. They should also decide as to whether or not they are dependable to their employer. They may or may not answer this question. It is not necessary to do so. This is a personal evaluation, so the answer does not have to be revealed to you as the professional career coach. Then, they should determine as to whether or not they are dependable to their colleagues. If the client doubts their dependability in any way whatsoever, it is important to work with them on this.

The next thing that a client should consider when engaging in a personal career assessment is whether or not they have something that makes them stand out from others in their career. This can be a personal characteristic, unique skills and abilities, or even special coursework and/or degrees. Many times, individuals who have "unique" characteristics, skills, and talents will end up succeeding more than individuals who do not have a special "spark" that sets them aside. As a professional career coach, you should encourage your clients to develop a special skill and/or quality.

As a professional coach, it is important that you share with your clients some insight about the difference between being "good" at something, and being "great" at something. Your clients should take career assessment very seriously. They should take the good in themselves and step it up a notch to experience greatness. By combining basic career assessment strategies and career assessment strategies that are personal to your client, you are accomplishing the goal of awakening their inner strengths and capabilities. This is essential to finding the right career, maintaining a career that they have, and advancing in a career.
